Mary Goodfellow, Senior Advisor, Legacy Giving | Heart & Stroke
Mary brings over three decades of expertise and success to the nonprofit sector with much of her career devoted to donor development at the Heart and Stroke Foundation. For the past 16 years, Mary has focused her efforts on gift planning and is responsible each year for raising millions of dollars in future revenue for Heart & Stroke. She enjoys the privilege of meeting with donors who have left gifts in their wills and is honoured to assist donors who are considering such meaningful legacies. Mary is passionate about assisting those impacted by heart disease and stroke and she takes great pride in helping donors achieve their vision for improved heart health and research. The new ‘norm’ for Mary during the current COVID-19 pandemic is to continue building relationships with donors and to hone in on direct and open communication with supporters. She has spoken directly with over 120 legacy donors bringing messages of thanks and checking in on their wellbeing. CAGP Niagara Golden Horseshoe was fortunate to have had Mary as a volunteer on the executive committee for 9 years. Mary is a proud member of her church and successfully used her fundraising knowledge to assist as a major gift volunteer for the expansion of her church parish centre.
“I first met Mary when serving on the CAGP Executive NGH in 2005. Mary was Treasurer and we served together on the Executive for nearly 10 years. When I think of someone who lives and breathes gift planning, Mary’s name comes to mind. Mary has worked in the legacy field for 16 years, has legacy conversations with donors across the country on a daily basis and is always willing to share and encourage her colleagues to put the donors’ needs first. Mary knows the importance of building meaningful relationships with donors and she truly loves what she does. Congratulations, Mary, on receiving the Lorna Somers Legacy Giving Award of Excellence – it is so well-deserved!”
